- We spent 4 days cooped up in Swiss campsite…
- We were woken early every morning by the sound of gunfire and morters from the Swiss Army training base in Chur…
- 3 hours trying to pay for the repair work on the hearse…
- 10 ATMs were tried…
- 3 bank managers spoken to…
- PayPal locked us out…
- 4 angry mechanics… (who spoke as little English as we did German)
- Pasta for lunch and supper…
- One lost wallet including cards and money…
- A little scare as we drove down an Alp as our steering locked out and the hearse lost all power…
- The overpowering smell of burning brakes as we descend from the Alps into Lugano…
Just a list of problems we have had to face up to over the
past 24 hours..!
However there is light at the end of the tunnel – we have
made it to Italy! Still the hearse ploughs on, battling some serious heat and
inclines. One wonders what is a bigger challenge, the cycle back from Rome or
the driving to Rome?
As previously mention we are still eating pasta, we even
decided to set up our stove and pots and pans in the middle of a service
station… who on earth would pay €8 for a sandwich. We couldn’t remember the
last time we had seen a vegetable apart from Tomatoes, so we cooked a whole bag
of beans to go with our ham sandwiches. We couldn’t quite hack more pasta.
The atmosphere is good in camp tonight; a new campsite makes
all the difference…

Well they say that adversity is the making of you, but that is quite a list to cope with! At least you know that the AA Europe membership was a good investment! Great to hear you are on the road again, you must have had some funny looks at the service station cooking the beans, hopefully nor too near the pumps! All the best for the starting the cycling stage, from Second-in-command, Financial Team
